Willie Nelson

A bucket list show. Willie Nelson is someone I have wanted to see for years. Seems like when he was in town, I was not. The weather last night in Saratoga was amazing. The venue, The Mountain Winery, is a great place for a show like this. Allison Krauss opened for him. She has such a beautiful voice. Her set finished with a group of old Gospel songs that had the crowd singing along.

Willie came out with his band to a standing ovation. He opened with Whiskey River and Still Is Still Moving To Me. Along with his great and a few deep cuts, he covered some Waylon Jennings, Ed Bruce, Hank Williams, and Merle Haggard. He wore several bandanas throughout the show and tossed them to fans, including one toddler who was dancing in front of the stage. Allison Krauss and two of her singers came out to finish the night with Willie singing I’ll Fly Away.

At 85, Willie still puts on a great show. He has outlived most of his outlaw country brethren. He’s still got that Willie smile. The venue staff commented between sets that he is one of the most gracious acts that come through.

Willie is headed to Fresno tonight and Costa Mesa on Thursday. Catch him while you can.
